Activity Plan:

1. Using your team's official website, or NFL.com, find the following information for each quarterback who has played for your team: * Total attempted passes (usually shown as ATT) * Total completed passes * Number of touchdown passes thrown * Number of Interceptions thrown * Total passing yards 2. We will use this information to calculate the Quarterback Rating for each quarterback. a. Open Microsoft Excel b. Type the name of your team in Cell A1 c. Type the name of your quarterback in Cell A3 d. Format your column to Auto Fit Selection e. Insert the following titles in cells A4 - A13 * Attempts * Completions * TD * INT * Yards * Percent Completions * Percent Touchdowns * Average Yards * Percent Interceptions f. Fill in cells B4 through B8 with the data that you gathered from the Internet. g. In cell A15, insert the title "Quarterback Rating for __________". Fill in the blank with the name of your quarterback. 3. Percent Completions is the percent of attempted passes that were completed. To calculate this you would need to divide completions by attempts (completions/attempts). To have Excel calculate this for you, you need to put the correct formula in cell B9. Type =B5/B4. Press the Enter key. You now need to format this cell for percentage. Click format, cells, percentage. 4. Percent touchdowns is the percent of attempted passes that were touchdowns. To calculate this you would need to divide TD by attempts (TD/attempts). To have Excel calculate this for you, you need to put the correct formula in cell B10. Type =B6/B4. Press the Enter key. You now need to format this cell for percentage. Click format, cells, percentage. 5. Average Yards is the average yards per completion. To calculate this you would need to divide yards by completions (yards/completions). To have Excel calculate this for you, you need to put the correct formula in cell B11. Type =B8/B5. Press the Enter key. This cell should not be formatted by percentage. 6. Percent interceptions is the percent of attempted passes that were intercepted. To calculate this you would need to divide INT by attempts (INT/attempts). To have Excel calculate this for you, you need to put the correct formula in cell B12. Type =B7/B4. Press the Enter key. You now need to format this cell for percentage. Click format, cells, percentage. 7. The formula for Quarterback Rating is 5/6(Percent Completion + 4(Percent TD) + 5(Average yards) + 2.5 -5(Percent INT). To have Excel calculate Quarterback Rating you need to put the folding formula in cell B15. = 5/6*(B9 + 4*B10 + 5*B11 + 2.5 - 5*B12) 8. Repeat this procedure for all of the quarterbacks for your assigned team.
