taught and assessed for The Westing Game, a
novel by Ellen Raskin.
Goals:
Students will master 29 vocabulary words from The Westing Game.
Objectives:
Students will define each of the vocabulary words selected from the novel.

Activity Plan:
The vocabulary list selected for this novel study was divided into two halves of 15 words each. A cumulative vocabulary test was given as a part of the main test at the end of the novel.
Words introduced for each chapter were discussed and noted on individual student charts that organized the story elements. Various methods were used to practice and frequently review the words. Some of these included student made crossword puzzles, word searches, and a vocabulary bee.
These lessons were collaboratively taught by a resource room teacher and a 6th grade educator in a general education classroom that included several identified exceptional students. The number of words selected, increased practice opportunities, and discussion of the words in context were used to accommodate their learning needs.
