Reference Materials:
N/A
Activity Plan:
Students will gather in a large group with their materials. Teacher will form the time on a clock and have students write their answers on their white boards and wait for teacher's cue to show those answers.
Give the students three choices of answers (either from what the students have written or plausible guesses).
Have the students vote on the correct answer.
Repeat this process several times. Discuss, if needed, that the shorter hand is the hour hand and the longer hand is the minute hand. There must be at least three digits in time, and to find the minutes we count by fives. Give students worksheets that show clocks and have them go to their seats to finish the sheets.
After the worksheets, divide the class into small groups to make a group story about the events of a day and determine what time those events occurred and put the events in order as a group.
Method of Learning:
Group activity followed by individual work on worksheets.
Assessment:
Visually check the white board responses for correct work. Group discussions and voting will give information on the status of the class as a whole on telling time. Worksheets will provide concrete answers to a variety of questions.
