Description:
Use a Venn diagram to compare your families Christmas traditions with a country the student has selected. This was designed for an ESL classroom, and the students researched the country from which they or their family originated.
Goals:
Students will be able to identify Christmas traditions in their home country, as well as here, and compare them.
Objectives:
List Christmas traditions from their home.
Research on the Internet Christmas traditions from another country.
Complete a Venn diagram comparing same and different.
Educational Resources:
Computers with Internet access, pencil and paper for taking notes, Venn diagram to fill in when research is completed.
Reference Materials:
Google.com, handout with Venn diagram for students to fill in
Activity Plan:
Work in class to explain project. Have students list Christmas traditions from their home. Each student needs to pick a country to research for Christmas traditions.
Visit the computer lab to complete research.
Prepare Venn diagram.
Method of Learning:
Large group discussing Christmas traditions. The teacher could begin by using her own as an example. Then the student must write out their own.
Individual work will be required in the computer lab, and also to complete the Venn Diagram.
Assessment:
The completed Venn diagram will demonstrate the mastery level achieved by the student.
